Chinaman Creek Dam
Chinaman Creek Dam, a short 5-minute drive from the Cloncurry township, is a picturesque spot for the whole family to enjoy.
The dam is the perfect place for bushwalking, having a BBQ with friends and family, swimming, fishing, water skiing, kayaking, paddle boarding and more!
The newly upgraded recreation area boasts a playground, under cover picnic tables and BBQs, amenities and more. The recreation area is on the waterfront with scenic views across the dam looking towards Mt. Leviathan, locally known as Black Mountain.
Spectacular outback scenery surrounds the dam, which has several great fishing spots where you can try your hand at catching that elusive metre barra.
Chinaman Creek Dam is home to abundant birdlife. Birds found at the dam include Grey Crowned Babblers, Blue Winged Kookaburras, Spotted Bowerbirds, Double-bar Finches, Brolgas, Pheasant Coucals, and the Cloncurry Parrot. A full bird-watching list, which also includes the most common snakes, spiders and lizards, can be obtained from the visitor information centre.
Camping is not permitted at Chinaman Creek Dam.
